Advice & Suggestion

Suggestion (kata benda) yang berarti saran, suggest (kata kerja) yang berarti menyarankan.

Advice (kata benda) yang berarti nasihat, advise (kata kerja) yang berarti menasihati.

Keduanya (baik suggestion/advice) bisa menggunakan ungkapan yang sama dalam meminta, memberi, menerima ataupun menolak saran/nasihat tersebut.

ASKING FOR SUGGESTION/ADVICE (MEMINTA SARAN/NASIHAT)

  • I have a problem. I need your advice. (Sy punya masalah. Sy butuh saranmu)
  • What do you suggest? (Apa saranmu?)
  • Do you have any suggestions? (Apakah anda punya saran?)
  • What should I do? (Apa seharusnya yg sy lakukan?)
  • If you were me, what would you do? (Jika kamu sy, apa yg akan kamu lakukan?)
  • What’s your advice? (Apa saran nasihatmu?)
  • Please tell me what to do. (Tolong katakan apa yg sy hrs lakukan)
  • What ought I to do? ( Apa yg harus sy kerjakan?)

GIVING SUGGESTION/ADVICE (MEMBERI SARAN/NASIHAT)

  • I would like to suggest you that … (sy akan menyarankan kamu agar...)
  • It’s better for you to … (lebih baik kamu...)
  • My advice is …(saranku adalah...)
  • My suggestion is …(nasihatku adalah...)
  • You should + verb 1 (kamu seharusnya...)
  • If I were you, I would … (jika sy kamu, sy akan...)
  • You had better + verb 1 (kamu sebaiknya..)
  • Why don’t you + verb 1 … ? (Mengapa kamu tdk...)
  • How about + verb-ing …? (Bagaimana jika...)
  • I think you should … (sy kira kamu seharusnya...)
  • I advise you to … (sy sarankan kamu untuk...)
  • Try to … ( coba untuk...)
  • You ought to + verb 1 ( kamu seharusnya...)

ACCEPTING SUGGESTION/ADVICE (MENERIMA SARAN/NASIHAT)

  • That’s good idea. I will do it. (ide yang bagus, sy akan laksanakan)
  • I’ll try. Thank you. (Sy akan coba)
  • Sure, I can do it. (yakin. Sy akan kerjakan)
  • Yeah, you’re right. (ya. kamu benar)
  • Why didn’t I think of that? (kenapa sy tidak berfikir itu ya?)
  • That’s the best one, I’ll try that. (itu yg terbaik, sy akan coba)

REFUSING SUGGESTION/ADVICE (MENOLAK SARAN/NASIHAT)

  • I can’t do that.  (sy tdk bisa melakukannya)
  • I’m afraid I can’t. (sy kuatir sy tdk bisa)
  • Could you give me another way? (bisakah anda memberi cara lain?)
  • I think it can’t solve my problem. (sy kira sy tdk bisa memecahkan masalahku)
  • I’m not sure.(sy tak yakin)
  • How about other suggestions? (bagaimana apa ada saran lain?)
  • I don’t think I can. (kurasa tdk bisa)
